Woolwich & District Family History Society

Woolwich & District Family History Society was formed in 1979 to cover family history interests in the London Borough of Greenwich and the northern half of the London Borough of Bexley in Kent. Membership has now grown to some 400 members.

The society holds regular meetings at Shrewsbury House, SE18 where members and non members are welcome to hear a variety of speakers, seek advice, and meet other enthusiasts. The Society meets fortnightly from January to June, and September to November. Meetings are four weekly in July, August and December. Alternative meetings are members’ evenings when the library and help are available.

The society publishes a quarterly journal which provides items of local interest, general genealogical information, events and activities of the society and lists of the society’s own publications. A separate publication of members’ family history interests is occasionally published on microfiche.

Assistance with specific enquiries, and applications to join this small but friendly society can be obtained from S. Highley, 121 Crofton Ave, Bexley, Kent, DA5 3AU or by email suhiwfhs@tiscali.co.uk.

Woolwich & District FHS is an associate member of the Federation of Family History Societies.

The society contributed to the National Burial Index For England & Wales. These records are available as part of a Findmypast Plus and Pro subscription.
