If your ancestor owned a business in the years following 1892, you may be able to find details of it within these records.

Some content will simply list basic details of businesses in the local area but other records, particularly the Business Indexes of Britain, will give much more information. These records, in fact, are part of an ongoing project to digitise a series of books - the authors of which appear to have travelled the length and breadth of the country offering local businesses the opportunity to appear in a book on the history of their local area. In many cases a business will have a short paragraph dedicated to information about it, and others may even have an image of the business / owner included.
