About Queensland Family History Society

The Queensland Family History Society (QFHS) in Australia was formed in 1979. It is a non-profit, non-sectarian, non-political organisation that aims to promote the study of family history, local history, genealogy and heraldry, and to encourage the collection and preservation of records relating to the history of Queensland families. The Society’s premises are at Gaythorne, a northside Brisbane suburb. It is Queensland’s leading family history and genealogy organisation and has the state’s largest genealogical bookshop. The library is open to members and paying non-members.


Holdings include records to assist the researcher wherever their families have originated:

• Atlases, maps and gazetteers covering Australia, UK and most of Europe
• Probate indexes
• Birth, death and marriage indexes
• Cemetery records
• Convict records
• Electoral rolls
• Shipping records
• Government and Police gazettes
• Post office directories
• and many other resources on families and local history
