Building your family tree

Answer:

Selecting "Tree" from the top navigation will take you to the tree introduction page. Click on the blue button "Create or view your Tree" and you will be brought to our tree builder program.

Your tree will begin with you as the tree owner. You can then start to add names to your tree by clicking on Add Partner, Add Child, Add Mother/Father or Add Sibling. After you have added the details to your tree click on "save".

You can add more than one partner to a relation and you can attach different children to those specific partners. When viewing the Family Tree page you can pick which relation you wish to add the partners to. Click on that relation and you will see three small buttons below the relations name - "add", "edit" and "delete". Select "add', choose the partner option and fill in the boxes. Once you have added the details you can save the changes - If someone in your tree has more than one partner and you have added a child to the wrong parent, you can correct this. When viewing the child's details in your tree you will see the "parents" option, from here you can choose the correct parents. You can then save the changes you have made.

It is not possible to link up someone who appears twice in your tree, for example, brothers and sisters who married each other, or cousins who got married in your tree. You will have to enter that person twice.
If you have made a mistake you simply need to click on "delete" which you'll see just above the relation's details. You can only delete a name from your tree if it is at the top or the bottom or has no other branches attached to it. For example, you can remove or delete the child of a relation. However, if you have added the wrong father, you would need to remove any children first before deleting him. You will see a message saying you cannot delete a relation if other names are attached to that person. You will need to look at your tree and either remove names from the bottom upwards or from the top down depending on where the relation is that you wish to remove.

If you just need to correct something, click on the name of the relation in your tree. You can then amend the mistake by pressing "edit" and save the changes. If you would like to add more details to a family member, you must first click on the individual you wish to edit, then either click on the arrow that lies on the very right of the page or you can click on "edit more details" from the basic "edit" page.
