Findmypast’s Lead Genealogist, Joshua Taylor will be touring Australia and New Zealand during July/August giving informative talks developed to provide you with the necessary tools to uncover more about your past. Joshua is passionate about technology and original research and will share his proven methods to blend the best of traditional research with advances in technology.

There will be two sessions repeated at each venue, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Seats are strictly limited and tickets must be pre-booked. Tickets are FREE and booking information is below.

Who is Joshua Taylor?

Joshua Taylor, MA, MLS is the Lead Genealogist of findmypast’s North American office. Joshua is passionate about genealogy and technology, is a well-known and recognised genealogical author, lecturer, and researcher. He has authored articles in American Ancestors, UGA Crossroads, FGS Forum, Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly, and New England Ancestors, and was a columnist for Digital Genealogist.

Active in the genealogical community, Joshua is the current President for the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS). Joshua is the former Director of Education and Programs at the New England Historic Genealogical Society in the US.

Joshua is the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including RootsTech’s Distinguished Presenter Award, the Federation of Genealogical Societies Award of Merit, and the Rubincam Youth Award from the National Genealogical Society. He holds an MLS (Archival Management) and an MA (History) from Simmons College and has been a featured genealogist on television program ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ with Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashley Judd, Reba McEntire, and Rob Lowe.

First talk: Successful Online Searching: Making the Most of Your Time Online
While there are millions of records online, they often can be difficult to access. Explore methods to uncover your family history in search engines, databases, and digital collections. Techniques will include clustering, developing keywords, truncation and phrase searching.

Followed by Q & A – have your questions answered.

Second talk: Beyond the Names and Dates: Records to Expand Your Family Tree
While census and birth, death, and marriage records provide core resources for our research, thousands of other record types help to illustrate the lives of our ancestors and break through brickwalls. Uncover treasures found in court files, newspapers, immigration records, and social histories that can add depth to your research.

Followed by an update on “new records coming soon to findmypast”.
Get the inside information on the new technology coming soon to findmypast and uncover the wonderful new records soon to be published on findmypast - some have never been digitised before and will be available online for the first time!
