About Gould Genealogy and History

Our Charter

Gould Genealogy's Customer Charter describes what we believe as a business and as a group of people working in that business.

Gould Genealogy is proud that two generations of the Phillips family are actively involved in the day-to-day operation of our business.

We have a wholehearted commitment to use our wide experience (since 1976) as genealogists and booksellers in providing an unmatched range of genealogy products. Through our regular online newsletter and online catalogue updates we will keep our customers informed about all-important new products.

Gould Genealogy is committed to integrity, fairness, promptness and friendliness in all our dealings with our customers, especially with any problem or error on our part that may arise. That is why we willingly offer an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee for the return of faulty or unsuitable products for credit, exchange or refund.

Our aim also is to provide our customers with delivery that's second to none.

Our History

The business that is now Gould Genealogy was started as a hobby interest by Alan and Anthea Phillips from their Adelaide Hills home in September 1976. After the closure of History House Bookshop, Melbourne, at the first Australasian Congress on Genealogy & Heraldry in 1977 an Australia wide market opened up.

Alan left his former employment in February 1982 to manage the business full time in parallel with the remarkable expansion of interest in family and local history in the 1980s. During the 1980s Alan & Anthea's son, Stephen, and daughter, Alona, joined the business and are still with us today. Stephen had some time away from the business in other employment, but rejoined us in 2002 as business manager, to add to the responsibility he shares for 6 young children in his family.
