These records are brought to you thanks to the brilliant work of Louise Cocker, who has documented burials and memorial inscriptions in cemeteries and burial grounds across many countries including England, Germany, Cyprus, Italy and Greece.
This collection includes burials from the Prague War Cemetery in Prague, Czech Republic which is now maintained by the Commonwealth Graves Commission. The Prague War Cemetery contains 256 Commonwealth burials from the Second World War, with 34 of those burials unidentified. Many of the individuals buried in the cemetery died as Prisoners of War. There were many British POWs captured in Bohemia and Moravia during the German occupation.
Soldiers who died in various locations across what is now the Czech Republic, particularly soldiers who died as POWs, had their remains consolidated into the Prague War Cemetery under a formal War Graves Agreement which was signed in 1949. The graves were brought from 73 other small cemeteries from across the Czech Republic.
