How do I print a Findmypast record?

If you want a paper copy of any of Findmypast’s records, you can easily print them straight from the site. To ensure your printed records are as comprehensive as possible, we recommend printing both the transcript and the image.

Printing transcripts

When viewing a record transcript, select the ‘Print’ button under ‘What can I do with this record?’. A new window will open showing a preview of what the printout will look like. Set any required print settings and select print.

All Findmypast transcript printouts include:

  • Date of print
  • Page title including record set name
  • The Findmypast logo so you can easily recognise the record source
  • URL of the page so you can easily return to it online

Printing images

When viewing a record image, select the ‘Print record’ button. A new window will open showing a preview of what the printout will look like. Set any required print settings and select print.

Printing PDFs

When viewing a PDF record, select the printer icon located in the PDF viewer window. A new window will open showing a preview of what the printout will look like. Set any required print settings and select print. Alternatively, you can download the PDF to your computer or device and print from there.

Printing newspaper pages and snippets

When viewing a newspaper page, select the blue ‘Print Page’ button. A new window will open showing a preview of what the full page printout will look like. Change any print settings if you wish and select print.

All Findmypast newspaper page printouts include:

  • Date of print
  • The Findmypast logo so you can easily recognise the record source
  • URL of the page so you can easily return to it online again if you wish

In some cases, you may want to only print an individual newspaper article or specific section of a page. While individual articles and sections can’t be printed directly from the site, you can get around this by using the snipping or grabbing tool available on most devices. Simply snip a screen grab of the article or page section you want, save it to your device and print as normal from there.
