COLOURED GIRL MAY NOW JOIN LAND ARMY Miss Amelia King, the coloured girl who was rejected from the Women's Land Army on the ground that 'farmers would not employ her,' is now to be accepted. Mr. Walter Edwards, M.P., drew the attention of the Minister of Agriculture to the case on September 23, and the following morning the News Chronicle received an offer of work for Miss King from a Hampshire farmer. Others followed. When told of this, the W.L.A. said they could do nothing, as recruiting had been stopped on July 29. It was then drawn to their attention that Miss King had been interviewed in March. They still said they could do nothing. The News Chronicle then brought the case to the attention of the Ministry of Labour, who at once took the matter in hand, with the result that Miss King may now join the Women's Land Army.
