Peter Cross: Family History Independent Indexer
We are pleased to be working in partnership with Peter Cross, a family history independent indexer with a particular interest in Leeds, Yorkshire.
As an independent indexer, I started genealogy back in the days before the Internet, working with the original old documents and registers. Following some transcribing for the 1881 Census Project, I was asked by an Australian relative to check on a family grave. Appalled at the condition of some of the registers and the way they were stored, I began indexing to try and preserve the information. I was joined by a fellow genealogist and work-mate who unfortunately died after we had finished a particular index, and I have since continued indexing in his memory.
All the cemeteries of interest are in the Leeds area of Yorkshire.
If asked, and it is convenient, I am willing to do simple look ups for people when visiting the offices where the records are kept.
