Rate Books
Records in this collection
With almost 20-million names of rate (tax) payers, and growing, it's easy to see why our rate book records are a valuable resource for genealogists hoping to unlock new information about individuals on their family tree.
Rate books pre-date the 1841 census, with our earliest records dating back as 1598, and are able to give you details as to the name (head of household), property description, amount to be paid, any defaults and possibly more, dependant upon the area and date of the record in question.
These are a great resource to turn to when you feel that you have exhausted your search of the census, and we will be adding new locations regularly, so it is always worth checking back at a later date if you are unable to find the location that you are hoping to research.
