Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group

Within the county of Derbyshire, the Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group (DARG) is an informal group without any official membership, elected officers or affiliations to any other organisation. It comprises enthusiasts mainly in the fields of family and local history and is involved in recording monumental inscriptions throughout Derbyshire, with occasional visits over the county border. During the winter, effort is transferred to the transcribing of parish registers and other archival records held at the County Record Office in Matlock.

These are checked and indexed during workshop meetings held in the group's headquarters in Somercotes near Alfreton. Visitors are very welcome to attend and may search the ever-growing library. This industrious Group also enjoys organised trips to national archives throughout the year.

DARG's records are not for sale, but the Group will happily answer enquiries and willingly share their expertise. Offer of searches is restricted to the Group’s own transcripts and other material in their library, and for which a catalogue is available. Enquiries must be accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope or, in the case of overseas enquiries, by two International Reply Coupons. No charges are levied, but donations towards funds are always welcome. Please write to Winifred Waterall, 86 High Street, Loscoe, Heanor, Derbyshire DE75 7LF.

Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group have contributed to the National Burial Index. These records are available as part of the Findmypast Plus or Pro subscription.
