Tunbridge Wells Family History Society

Tunbridge Wells Family History Society, which straddles the Kent / Sussex border, was formed by local enthusiasts in 1991 for those with family history interests in Tunbridge Wells and its surrounding area. The 12 parishes of specific interest include Ashurst, Bidborough, Pembury, Penshurst, Southborough, Speldhurst, Lamberhurst, Frant, Rotherfield, Ticehurst, Wadhurst and Withyham. Membership now stands at approximately 300.

The Society holds regular meetings at Groombridge Village Hall, where members can enjoy a variety of speakers, seek advice, borrow from the library and meet other enthusiasts. There is also assistance from a newly-formed computer group.

‘The Journal’ is distributed three times per year to provide items of local interest, general genealogical information, events and activities of the Society. An opportunity to list personal family history interests is given in a separate publication which is regularly updated. The website includes details of local publications, members’ interests, projects, a guestbook, research services (for members only) and facilities to join the Society.

Tunbridge Wells FHS is a member of the Federation of Family History Societies.
